Vote Earth

March 28, 2009 marks a momentous day in the history of mankind. People from all over the globe will switch off their lights for an hour at exactly 8:30 pm. This is our vote to save Mother Earth vs Global warming.

Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

The goal this year is to reach 1 billion votes by switching off the lights as part of the global vote. 2848 cities and towns in 83 countries across all seven continents will unite for Earth Hour. The votes will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

We can also help spread the word by registering with Earth Hour. Let’s encourage our families and friends to sign up as well. We can even create a blog post on how we can make a difference in this global crisis.

One hour for One Home. Earth.
