In less than an hour, the Philippines will be doing its share in the biggest election of mankind: Humans Voting for EARTH vs Global Warming. (Click HERE to read related article.) Lights all over the country will be switched off at exactly 8:30 pm and will cease at 9:30 pm.
The City of Makati, headed by Mayor Jejomar C Binay, will be the Official Earth Hour Flagship City of the Philippines. Binay will be joined by city officials and representatives from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and local and international environmental groups at Tower One of the Exchange Plaza on Ayala Avenue for a program at 7pm. At 8:29pm, the mayor will lead the countdown to the one hour switch off event. Other cities will also have their own program for this worldwide event.
Since it will be pitch-black for an hour, people will be using other alternatives for illuminating their homes. Here are some fire prevention tips in order to ensure safety among us while doing a worthwhile act:
- Never leave burning candles unattended. Do not allow children to keep candles or incense in their rooms.
- Always use stable, candle holders made of material that won’t catch fire, such as metal, glass, etc.
- Place candles away from curtains, clothes line, etc.
- Blow out candles when adults leave the room.
